Lincolnshire is well known for its food and drink. With so much produce, homegrown and reared in Lincolnshire you will be spoilt for choice. Not many people know that that Lincolnshire is the biggest producer of food and drink in the country.
A cakey loaf containing dried fruit such as; currants, raisins and sultanas, served with a mug of tea and a slice of Lincolnshire poacher cheese. The Traditional Plumbread is based on a recipe used by Myra Pocklington in the 1930's to feed the farm workers on the family farm. She would take it out to the farm hands in the fields at break time.
Lincolnshire now has some of the best Gin distilleries in the UK. Gin is a distilled alcoholic drink that derives its predominant flavour from juniper berries.
Fish and Chips
No trip to the seaside is complete without Fish and Chips, most fish will be caught locally in Grimsby the same day. There can be nothing better than to eat them sitting on a beach or on the Prom looking out to sea. In Cleethorpes you can now have your fish and chips on the lovely 1870s Cleethorpes Pier, home to Papa’s Fish & Chips
Lincolnshire Poacher is an award-winning handmade cheese. It is made in a similar way to traditional West Country Cheddar using unpasteurised cow’s milk. Poacher is available in a cylindrical shape, coated by a rind appearing similar to granite. It is a slow-maturing cheese that takes between 12-24 months to develop a golden, straw-coloured yellow pate and spotted brown and grey colour rind.
Cured shoulder of pork sliced and filled with delicious parsley. Superb with fresh bread or on salads. The neck chine, a cut of a pig taken from between the shoulder blades, is preserved in brine. The meat is then deeply scored and much chopped parsley and other ingredients are stuffed into the cuts.
Grantham Gingerbread Biscuits
Grantham is known for its gingerbread biscuits and the tradition is said to date back to 1740 when a local baker, William Eggleston mistook one ingredient for another while preparing cakes. So deeply embedded in local culture is William's biscuit that Grantham Town Football Club is known as the "Gingerheads".
A cold meat consisting of chopped or minced pork offal compressed into a loaf before being cooked. Haslet is typically made from stale white bread, minced pork, sage, salt and black pepper. It is typically served cold with pickles and salad, or as a sandwich filling.
Traditionally pork sausages with a distinctive taste of sage, parsley, and thyme with a firm, chunky texture. This delicious combination is what makes the Lincolnshire sausage not only mouth-watering, but incredibly versatile.
